Help for British Nationals

The Consular Section exists to provide protection and assistance for British Citizens living in or visiting the Gambia, with the constraints of international consular agreements. To achieve this, the Section provides many services for British Citizens and their families, including:

  • issuing British passports;
  • registering births and deaths of British citizens in the Gambia;
  • providing travel advice for those planning to visit the Gambia

All British citizens either resident or planning a lengthy stay in the Gambia are encouraged to register with the Consular Section. This Section offers advice and assistance to British Citizens who become ill, the families of those who die here and those who get arrested or become the victim of crime.

In the event of an emergency British Nationals should either visit the Consular Section at the High commission or contact the main High Commission number (00 220 4495133/4). Out of hours, a recorded message will provide the Duty Officer's number. Please check on the different types of assistance available.
